SC R/C Trucks Comparison

A lot of people ask me how much these radio control trucks cost. And usually the high cost is a deterrent for them to join the hobby. Fortunately today, Short Course (SC) radio controlled trucks, priced at around $190 - $220 ready to run makes it easy and cheap to get started in racing.

To help you choose, here is a technical comparison comparing the 4 most popular short course r/c trucks today.

See you at the race track!

Nitro RC Cars - Running in the 90s. Nostalgia.

Nitro rc cars racing and running in the 1990s. This event was covered by Radio Control Car Action magazine and was in their 1997 issue. This is the Kyosho World Cup 1997 finals won by Team Philippines.

Here they do a lemans start where pitcrew run to the cars, pull start the engine then start racing. There is also a driver change during the 60 minute final, driver will run down from the driver stand to tag the co-driver in.

These Kyosho cars are so realistic. There were popular bodies and models such as the Ford GT. And with such a big track racing was very realistic.

Hope you like this nostalgic video. RC racing was really the best in the 90s!

RCCarTips #70 - Nitro R/C Race Inside a Mall

Hi Guys,

On 8 Nov 2009, I joined a race that was held inside a mall. What was unique was there was a race for 1/8 nitro rc buggies! This is the first time in my 32 years enjoying the hobby have I seen nitro rc cars racing inside a mall and watched by thousands of people throughout the day. Here are videos and photos:

http://www.rccarsrtr.com/index.php/nitro-rc-cars-racing-inside-a-mall.html

As for me it was most memorable because my 8 year old daughter and wife joined in the rally class. I joined in the 4wd class.

http://www.rccartips.com/rc-cars-race-mallofasia2009.htm

It was a very happy and memorable weekend for me. Racing rc cars with my family, nothing could be better!

Traxxas Slash 4x4 RC Truck

The Traxxas 2wd Slash was a big hit. But being 2wd, it was difficult to drive in off road tracks due to lack of rear wheel grip.

That problem is now solved with the Traxxas 4x4 Slash... 4wd with monster brushless power!

RC Cars RTR Website

Hi, I've been updating my RCCarTips.com website since 2003. But with over 290 pages, it is getting difficult to organize the topics logically.

So rather than revamping, I decided to create a new site where I will be posting on a regular basis tips, guides and best topics when it comes to rc cars. The site is called RCCarsRTR.com. Please take a look and let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment.

If you would like to be a contributor or share your rc pics and knowledge just let me know, I'll post it. Rest assured a lot of people will get to read it as my old website has over 10,000,000 page views. Just write me an email at rccartips@hotmail.com.

Thanks and have a nice halloween weekend.

Tips of the Week

I just came back from racing in Thailand in the Tamiya Asia Cup 2009. One of the tip I learned was to put Tamiya Anti Wear grease on threaded shocks. This will prevent loose shock screw collars from moving around.

Here is a link to photos and videos of the event. Just sharing. Hope you also experience overseas racing with racers from other countries.

Here is a series of videos from Atsushi Hara, multiple time world champion, on tuning your 1/8 off road buggy.

And here is a video on how scale model kits are made. Very informative.

Tamiya M chassis race in Bangkok

Tamiya Asia Cup 2009 is inside Esplanade Mall in Bangkok. Highlight was an m chassis race with Jilles Groskamp (2009 European Touring Car Champion). I am standing to his right on the drivers stand.

Jilles built his Tamiya M05 cooper on the track himself the past two days from the box. I noticed his initial setup was lowered ride height with minimal droop.

The exhibition race with Jilles was fun. The best mini racers in Asia had a chance to race (or bash) the M05 of Jilles (just kidding). I was fortunate enough to be part of this race and had fun.

Hope you like the video and buy your Tamiya M05 mini today and race with your friends.

Arnold and Oldskul RC Birthday Race

My daughter and I went to the 3rd Arnold and Oldskul rc birthday race. Porsha joined in the rally class, but unfortunately the 12 year old TL01 car was not steering straight, eventually after 2 broken servos decided to call it a day. Oh well maybe next time. At least the food and music was great.

Tomorrow I will race in the 4wd electric buggy category in Sonic Boom racetrack using a Tamiya Durga with a Novak 4.5r brushless motor. Hope it will be a sunny day :)

Tamiya Asia Cup

Was just reminiscing of the Tamiya Asia Cup 2007 race held in Taiwan. I raced in the Tamiya M-Chassis class and had lots of fun. It's always a nice and memorable experience to race overseas.

Next month I'll probably race in the Tamiya Asia Cup 2009 in Thailand, and yes, you guessed it, in the Tamiya M-Chassis class. Guess I just enjoy these little toy cars.

Maybe I'll see some of you there next month? Look for me in the Philippine team... name is Joel.
